Growing our water and wastewater network
We’re investing in water and wastewater infrastructure to support housing growth and ensure our community has access to reliable water services now and into the future.
Why we are growing our networks
We’re working with the State Government and industry leaders to deliver effective water and wastewater solutions to support housing growth. This is the biggest expansion of our metropolitan water and wastewater network in decades, and it’s crucial for new housing developments on the outskirts of Adelaide, particularly in the northern suburbs. These areas need large-scale infrastructure to ensure reliable water and wastewater services for growing communities.
Unlocking new homes for the future
As part of the State Government’s Housing Roadmap, SA Water are investing $1.5 billion during the next 4 years to grow and expand our water and wastewater networks to enable an estimated 40,000 new homes to be built across South Australia. This includes an unprecedented $1.2 billion investment in critical growth infrastructure specifically across Adelaide’s north and south to directly unlock 11,000 new homes where they’re needed the most.
With ongoing investment, the network will eventually support up to 50,000 new homes by the 2050s, helping create sustainable and thriving communities. Read more about how we're supporting housing growth

Minimising disruptions while we deliver
To deliver this essential infrastructure, we’re working across multiple sites, mainly in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. We work closely with local communities throughout construction to minimise disruptions and make sure the work is completed safely and efficiently.
What happens to roads and footpaths after our works?
We work closely with the local council and follow all required reinstatement obligations, reinstating the parts of the road, footpath or the environment directly impacted by our works.

Keep informed and get involved
We’re keeping local communities and stakeholders informed as we deliver these essential network upgrades. Through communication with residents and businesses, online updates, local advertising, and regular meetings with local and state government, we’re making it easy for everyone to learn about the project, share feedback, and stay updated on progress and impacts in their area.
