Why we are growing our networks

We’re working with the State Government and industry leaders to deliver effective water and wastewater solutions to support housing growth. This is the biggest expansion of our metropolitan water and wastewater network in decades, and it’s crucial for new housing developments on the outskirts of Adelaide, particularly in the northern suburbs. These areas need large-scale infrastructure to ensure reliable water and wastewater services for growing communities.

Unlocking new homes for the future

We’re investing $1.2 billion over the next four years to support South Australia’s housing roadmap. This will enable us to deliver water and wastewater services to more than 11,000 homes and fund the construction and upgrades of essential infrastructure that will form the backbone of our network for years to come

What’s included in the upgrades?

Our planned works include:

  • 25 kilometres of new trunk water mains
  • 43 kilometres of trunk wastewater mains
  • Four new pumping stations
  • Two new water storage tanks

Work is already underway, with more projects starting in early 2025.

This directly enables new homes to be built in development areas across Adelaide’s north and south, including:

  • Angle Vale
  • Blakeview
  • Eyre
  • Gawler East
  • Riverlea
  • Roseworthy
  • Onkaparinga Heights (formerly Hackham)
  • Virginia

Building for the future

With ongoing investment, the network will eventually support up to 50,000 new homes by the 2050s, helping create sustainable and thriving communities.

Minimising disruptions while we deliver

To deliver this essential infrastructure, we’ll be working across multiple sites, mainly in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. We’ll work closely with local communities throughout construction to minimise disruptions and make sure the work is completed safely and efficiently.
