Why we are growing our networks

As part of a range of initiatives through the State Government’s Housing Roadmap, we’re investing $1.2 billion through to 2028 to build and upgrade large scale infrastructure systems that will directly enable an extra 11,000 homes in new development areas.

This investment represents the single largest expansion of our metropolitan water and wastewater network in decades, which is needed to connect these fringe developments to our existing infrastructure.

We also need to keep pace with the increasing demands on our pipes, pump stations, tanks and treatment facilities to ensure they have the capacity to service our existing customers, while preparing them for new and future customers.

This significant investment delivers:

  • 25 kilometres of new trunk water main
  • 43 kilometres of trunk wastewater main
  • four new pumping stations
  • two new water storage tanks

This directly enables new homes to be built in development areas across Adelaide’s north and south, including:

  • Angle Vale
  • Blakeview
  • Eyre
  • Gawler East
  • Riverlea
  • Roseworthy
  • Onkaparinga Heights (formerly Hackham)
  • Virginia

Importantly, this new backbone infrastructure lays the foundation to unlock an ultimate servicing capacity for up to 50,000 new homes by the 2050s with future investment.

Our focus is now firmly on delivering this critical infrastructure to keep development moving and support our state's growth ambitions.
