FAQs
What is happening?
We’re pleased to let you know that your water services will soon transition from the District Council of Coober Pedy to being provided by SA Water. This change is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Coober Pedy’s water supply services and provide long term support for the community.
Why is this transfer happening?
By having SA Water manage the network, the community will benefit from a more sustainable and reliable water supply over time, along with water services that are better equipped to meet long term future needs.
When will I transfer to SA Water?
All customers will be transitioned by the end of 2026, and we‘ll keep you informed with regular updates.
What upgrades are occurring to the system?
Upgrades will occur across the water supply system and will include works to immediately improve safety and work towards enhanced long-term reliability.
In the coming months, we will share information with you about the improvements and when they will occur, including how they will directly benefit customers and the community.
Will I need to pay anything extra?
No. There will be no connection fees for existing customers currently on the Council system. However, any new customers who choose to connect at a later date will have to pay a connection fee through SA Water.
How long will the upgrades take?
SA Water will work closely with Council over the coming months to identify water supply assets that require upgrades. Once the transition is complete, we will actively manage the infrastructure in the system to ensure long term water security for the community.
What will happen with Coober Pedy’s wastewater network?
Your local wastewater network will still be managed by Council.
What do I need to do?
There’s nothing you need to do. In the coming months we’ll continue to share information about your water services including when you’ll transfer, how to manage your new SA Water account, pay bills and report faults, as well as information on your new pricing structure. In the meantime, please continue with your current arrangements with Council.
