Port Vincent Earth Bank Storage Upgrade
SA Water is committed to continually improving water services in your area. Together with our major framework partner McConnell Dowell SRG Global Utilities Joint Venture (MCD-SRG JV), we are preparing to begin work on upgrading our Port Vincent Earth Bank Storage (EBS) site.
What is happening
The 5.6 megalitre Port Vincent EBS, located on Port Vincent Road, was first constructed in 2004 to provide the Port Vincent Township with a potable water supply, sourced from the Swan Reach to Paskeville Pipeline and treated at the Morgan-Swan Reach Treatment Plant.
Inspections on the EBS have determined that the cover and liner are reaching the end of their service life, and are in need of replacement.
The EBS will be drained, and the old cover and liner will be removed. A new liner and floating cover will be installed. The scope of this project also includes investigation works and other ancillary works to support the installation.
Prior to this work starting, you may notice heavy vehicle movements in and out of the site, as well as some upgrades to the access road into the site.
When is it happening
Crews will begin site preparation from late May, and the draining down of the EBS is expected to begin in late June of 2026. Works are anticipated to continue until early 2027.
The works will be scheduled Monday to Friday, from 7am to 5pm each day, subject to weather and unforeseen technical issues. Occasional weekend works may be required.
What to expect
As with most infrastructure upgrades, there may be some temporary impacts, including:
- short planned water supply outages
- construction noise and vibration
- dust and debris
- changes to traffic conditions, including the presence of construction vehicles.
A planned water release to drain down the EBS prior to works beginning will also be required for this project. We will reduce the level of water of the EBS as low as possible prior to draining down the water in order to reduce waste.
This release will be undertaken over the course of several days in order to ensure minimal impacts to the roads and environment.
You may notice some water travelling through the stormwater culverts and across the road during the course of the water release, and advisory and hazard management signage will be in place.
We will take all reasonable steps to minimise these construction impacts and support nearby residents. If you require assistance or have specific concerns during the works, please contact us so we can help.
Thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these important works.
