SA Water is committed to continually improving water and wastewater services in Port Pirie.

The wastewater rising main on Gordon Street, Broadway Road and Kitchener Terrace has come to the end of its service life and is ready to be upgraded.

Project overview

Approximately 3,400 metres of new pipeline will be installed along Gordon Street, Broadway Road, and Kitchener Terrace in Port Pirie. These works will not affect water or wastewater services.

Pipeline construction will be staged in blocks to minimise access impacts. Traffic controls and some road closures will be in place for safety, but local access and driveways will remain available throughout.

These works will be delivered by our construction partner Fulton Hogan Utilities. using a combination of trenching and trenchless methods depending on the ground conditions and underground services in each section. The trenchless sections will be undertaken as horizontal directional drilling to reduce surface disruption and minimise impacts to the community.

When it is happening

Works are set to start in April. Construction affecting Gordon Street and Broadway Road will begin in late April. The entire project should take about 7 months, with each section active for only a few weeks at a time due to staging.

If you live on Gordon Street or Broadway Road, you will be updated closer to the time to advise when works and associated road closures will be staged near your property.

Work is scheduled Monday to Friday, from 7am to 5pm each day, subject to weather and unforeseen technical issues.

What to expect

The main replacement will begin on Gordon Street close to our pump station, and then continue up Gordon Street, down Broadway Road and along Kitchener Terrace to the Port Pirie Wastewater Treatment Plant.

As with most infrastructure upgrades, there may be some temporary impacts, including:

  • construction noise and vibration
  • dust and debris
  • changes to traffic conditions, including the presence of construction vehicles.

Temporary road closures and detours will be in place at different stages. Property access will be maintained and no odour impacts are expected.

Once confirmed, traffic management plans and project updates will be shared on this page.

We will take all reasonable steps to minimise these impacts and support nearby residents. If you require assistance or have specific concerns during the works, please contact us so we can help.
