We are developing a Master Plan for land that we own in the Mobilong and Toora Irrigation Areas, situated on the western banks of the Lower River Murray, north of Murray Bridge.
The Master Plan will recognise the need to continue to protect water quality entering the Murray Bridge-Onkaparinga pipeline, however, it will also seek to incorporate additional opportunities to deliver a range of beneficial environmental, social, and economic outcomes.
Ongoing Environmental Land Management Allocation (ELMA) water will continue to be applied to the site, and we are currently in the process of installing additional infrastructure to improve the application of ELMA water.
Engaging with the community
The Master Planning process will identify and assess future land use opportunities for SA Water-owned land parcels in the Mobilong and Toora area, partnering with The University of Adelaide to develop these options.
We are open to considering different scenarios for the sites (excluding things such as livestock or intensive horticulture that do not align with the key objective of protecting drinking water quality), and will engage with landholders, neighbours, First Nations people, private water holders, the local community, and government/non-government agencies to understand what these options could include.
Stakeholders will be given the opportunity to provide further feedback once a draft Master Plan becomes available. The Master Planning project is expected to be complete in the first half of 2024.
