SA Water will soon begin construction of a new underground Mannum Recycled Water Pipeline, an important project that will improve how recycled water is managed at the Mannum Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
The Mannum WWTP, commissioned in 1968, is a zero‑discharge facility, meaning all treated recycled water must be reused on land. Currently, most recycled water is irrigated at the Mannum Golf Course, with excess volumes directed to small emergency irrigation areas. During winter, when irrigation demand is low, these areas become saturated, creating a risk of over‑irrigation, potential runoff, and nutrient leaching.
To address this, SA Water will install a new pipeline to safely transport recycled water to a nearby irrigation site where it can be reused more effectively.
This project will:
Improve disposal control by giving SA Water better management of recycled water volumes
Prevent over‑irrigation at the Golf Course and reduce the risk of runoff or leaching
Maximise reuse by directing recycled water to a suitable irrigation site
Ensure we continue to meet our compliance with EPA rules
These works will support the long‑term reliability and sustainability of recycled water services for the Mannum region.
When it’s happening
Construction is expected to begin lateJuly 2026 and approximately be completed early 2027. Our general working hours will be Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. The dates and times may shift depending on technical restraints and weather conditions. We will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, while minimising disruption to the community.
