Project update - October 2025
The project’s huge 117-tonne drill rig, which arrived on site last month, continues to make its mark at the wastewater treatment plant. The vertical drill rig is a specialised piece of machinery, and it’s so tall it can be seen from across the entire township of Port Lincoln. Since its arrival, the rig has been used to bore holes for piles – this is now complete, with 112 piles drilled.
The piles are infrastructure for the area that will become the marine intake pump station, and will enable the safe excavation of the vertical shaft which will support the project’s tunnel boring machine.
If you have been on Proper Bay Road recently, you may have noticed some activity on the verge. This is all part of the ‘pipe stringing’ process, where sections of pipe are laid out before being welded together and installed underground.
As well as pipe stringing, our contractors, Leed Engineering, have removed the section of railway line that intersects with Blue Fin Road, in preparation for the pipe installation to the Northside Hill tanks.
SA Power Networks are another step closer to connecting electricity from the Port Lincoln electricity substation at Sleaford Terrace with the plant site at Billy Lights Point.
Electricity cables have been pulled through underground trenches, and most of the roads where trenches were excavated for the underground cables have now been resealed. New Stobie poles are still to be erected along the unmade portion of Windsor Road as it heads south to Greyhound Road and along some sections of Greyhound Road. We are installing Stobie poles, rather than trenching, in areas with native vegetation and natural water sources.
