Project update - August 2026

Construction of marine infrastructure, including the intake and outfall pipes, is ongoing. While tunnel construction has been delayed by hard granite rock beneath the seabed, we continue to work closely with our contract partners to update the delivery timeframe and will share more information as it becomes available. Any schedule changes will not negatively impact the EP drinking water security.

Environmental measures are delivering positive outcomes, with new bird perches installed near Greyhound Road already being used by ospreys and other local wildlife. The perches were installed during construction of the transfer pipeline connecting Billy Lights Point to Northside Hill tanks.

Construction of the desalination plant is advancing, with all major equipment now on site and crews continuing structural, mechanical and electrical works. SA Water is also continuing community engagement and will provide further project updates at upcoming regional events.
